Ah, the joys of the first false spring in the San Lorenzo Valley! We hope you are enjoying the respite between storms, maybe soaking up the unusually temperate weather, walking around town in the sunshine, pulling a few weeds.
Speaking of pulling weeds, we are very pleased our 5th District County Supervisor, Monica Martinez, has secured funding to bring back the Green Waste Disposal Program for District 5 residents - an opportunity to dispose of yard trimmings and other green waste at no cost on the last Saturday of each month, beginning March 28th through June 27th.
Not only does this help us clean up our properties after each big gully washer (and we know there will be at least a couple more before the tomato plants go in the ground), it certainly helps us stay on top of wildfire hardening.
Supervisor Martinez is also hosting a PG&E Town Hall at the Boulder Creek Recreation Hall (behind the firehouse) on Monday, March 2, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm for residents to meet directly with PG&E representatives, give feedback, and sign up for available resources ahead of the next extended outage. The BCBA appreciates our Supervisor's efforts to listen to our concerns and directing limited county resources to meeting the needs of District 5 residents.
Before we launch into highlighting some amazing events and happenings going on in the next couple months, a quick update on the sorry state of our town lights. Back in December when we were all sitting in the dark during the storm window season opener, one of the downtown buildings on the Boulder Creek Pizza and Pub side of Highway 9 took a hit that tore a twenty foot section of lights off the facade of the building, which in turn took down the entire block down to Scarborough's.

To make matters worse, the lights on the Wild Roots side also went down. Never fear, the BCBA has contacted our lighting contractor, and repairs will begin next week. It's going to take a chunk of change to make all the necessary repairs to keep Boulder Creek Lit All Year Long, so please keep donating to the little CanPaign change cans you see at the check out of various local businesses, your quarters and dimes really do add up!

Now for the fun stuff-there are a whole bunch of happenings afoot in the SLV this spring! One event near and dear to our hearts is the Wine and Chocolate fundraiser being held at Scopazzi’s on Saturday, March 7th, from 12:00-3:30 pm. This event is put on by the dedicated parent volunteers who run the San Lorenzo Valley High School and Coast Redwood Grad Night program, a safe and sober all night graduation celebration for our graduating seniors. The Wine and Chocolate fundraiser is their biggest fundraiser in support of Grad Night, so please swing by, taste some exquisite wines and chocolates, and check out their silent auction! Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in advance (recommended) here.
If you can’t make that event, but still want to connect with folks and local businesses in your community, come check out the Boulder Creek Business Association’s first Mixer of the year, co-hosted by the SLV Museum and the SLV Rotary at the Museum’s Grace Gallery (12547 Highway 9, Boulder Creek) on Wednesday, March 11th, from 6:00-8:00 pm.
The purpose of BCBA mixers is simple: bring together our community and our member businesses to have a little fun, learn about what is going on around town, and just plain connect. It’s a casual way to get to know your neighbors, check out the Museum, and maybe even get involved in your community. As always, the local characters and refreshments (provided) will be unparalleled, there are no stuffy presentations, and there is no charge to attend.
April comes in strong with April Antics, a community-wide scavenger hunt (details here) beginning April 1st through April 30th, and the return of First Friday Boulder Creek on Friday, April 3rd, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Local merchants and specialty vendors line the streets of downtown Boulder Creek, come enjoy an evening out and about in town, featuring free egg walk and kid’s zone!
And now, for the big announcement, tickets are now on sale for the BCBA Annual Auction and Dinner on April 18th, from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm. We are pleased to return the event to Scopazzi’s this year! The community is invited to come have an excellent dinner (hors d’oeuvres, wine, and dessert included) and support the civic improvements and local events that make our town so special. Live Auction. Silent Auction. Competitive bidding for the collective good. Bring your game face—bidding will be enthusiastic, strategic, and possibly personal. We hope to see you there!
We are fortunate as residents there are too many events going on throughout the SLV to list in one newsletter, fortunately the BCBA website has a Community Calendar that lists them all--check it out! If you want to list your event or class on the calendar, drop us a line here.
That’s all we have for the moment, get out and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, and see you around town!
