Some exciting things have been happening in town and many more are in the works!
Through continued social distancing due to Covid-19 and community efforts to rebuild after the 2020 CZU fires, the BCBA has been hard at work. Some of the projects have reached a point where they have been shared with the community – have you enjoyed an afternoon chat on the first of our many new benches that we had placed in front of Scarborough Home Center? What you may not know is that the BCBA is continuously working behind the scenes on quite a few projects that will enhance the historic charm and strengthen the economic vitality of our precious neck of the woods. And, if you’d like to be, you can be a part of it!
The BCBA began in the late 1960s with a group of visionaries, led by Jay Baker, who wanted to clean up the downtown core and make the area more inviting to both residents and visitors. Nearly six decades later, we are continuing that effort and expanding it to include the community at large. Part of that expansion is becoming a Main Street Affiliate with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. As an affiliate, we now have access to support systems that are designed to help towns like Boulder Creek thrive. Being a Main Street town and having the program succeed also means expanding the volunteer based, grass roots movement that welcomes members of the residential and business community to be a part of the completion of the projects as volunteers and donors as well as fundraising efforts that are necessary to preserve and enhance our town. It takes a village, right? Can we count on you to join us?
We’ve begun regular round table meetings with some movers and shakers in the community and with governmental leaders who are invested in the success of Boulder Creek. In 2023, we plan to expand these to include utility companies, government officials and the public so that all can be a part of the action. Projects we’re working on and discussing include, but are certainly not limited to, an overhaul of the town’s waste water system, installing EV stations, getting broadband access to the entire region and collaborating with the RTC on Highway 9 improvements. While these aren’t flashy, building a strong foundation in the infrastructure will help to ensure the success of those that are more fun.
Because of our expanding portfolio of projects, we also need to expand our fundraising efforts. The 2022 annual dinner & auction, which was held outdoors for health safety, was a big success. We had a lot of fun in the spring sunshine, listening to great music, laughing with friends, and we got a good start on raising money toward a fund for a couple of our projects. We also moved a portion of the auction online for the first time and it went over so well that we’re going to continue that tradition. Doing so allows us to reach well beyond the San Lorenzo Valley and gives our own community who can't attend the dinner a chance at winning a fabulous donated auction item while supporting the BCBA's goals. Stay tuned for enhancements of other traditional events! Our membership levels are also changing a bit. First, your membership term will no longer be for the calendar year, but for the 12 months after we receive payment. Second, we'll still have our legacy memberships and sponsorships, but this year we'd like you to consider becoming a Champion of Boulder Creek and the BCBA.

Remember that all funds raised are put right back into the community!

Thank you for your continued support! We look forward to an exciting 2023!
